13 February 2010 8 Comments

Im trying out for the golf team. If i miss it, i make JV. If i play like crap, i go home with nothing. Any tips that can help me play well? I usually shoot in the low to mid 40s from back tees.

Keep your head down and your eye on the ball. Never ever look up to see where its going rather let your shoulder turn your head up as you make your complete and full follow through. Never try to kill the ball….it is self defeating! Relax and just meet the ball and go for the middle of the fairway. go early and take a few swings with woods and irons at the range to get the worries and the kinks out. Then each time will not be the FIRST time for the day when you use the club AND EVERYONE IS WATCHING. Do not be intimidated BE THE INTIMIDATOR! Do not get jealous at someone elses shot just stay consistently down the middle. You will intimidate the crap out of anybody! And be deadly with your putter.

First thing: you will play better if you are social, i have noticed i play worse when i play with people who are up tight and don’t talk, so when you play start a conversation.
Secondly: Stretch, this will help you warm up
Third: Try not to over think, if you start playing bad blow it off, NEVER try to tweek your swing while playing, wait.
Fourth: practice putting mostly, people concentrate on there irons and woods but id you think about it putting and chipping is where you score,
and also be open to tips from more experienced golfers
    GOOD LUCK

your not making varsity. unless your team sucks. i play 3 on varsity @ my school, our number one shoots 66 on average. so mid forties aint gunna cut it. if i were you reading this id jump in a car, find the closest driving range and be there all night, maybe go take a lesson while there. goodluck

If you miss it, you’ll make JV, but if you play like crap, you don’t. I’m not following….just go out there and play.
You should read up on some Stoic philosophies. It’ll help you relax for this sort of thing.

Focus on the moment, the shot in front of you and don’t worry about making the team or not making the team jsut golf your ball.
